Ever since Batista's debut on Smackdown as The Deacon: Dave Batista for Reverend D-Von, Batista has shown signs of one day carrying the weight of WWE on his shoulders. When Batista switched to Raw, he joined Evolution and dominated destroying every superstar in his path picking up tips and lessons from friends and allies, Triple HHH and Ric Flair along the way. Evolution started falling apart after Randy Orton won the World Heavyweight Championship when Evolution members; Triple HHH, Ric Flair, and Batista dismantled him in the middle of the ring.

When Batista won the Royal Rumble, a new door opened for him. He finally saw that World Heavyweight gold in his mind around his waste. However, Triple HHH and Ric Flair did not see it this way. They tried convincing Batista not to go through with this and even switching to Smackdown! to face WWE Champion JBL instead. Batista made his decision clear after he gave a spine buster to Ric Flair and then powerbombed Triple HHH through a wooden table on an episode of Raw.

Batista continued to make Evolution know that he was coming after the title defeating every superstar that got in his way. Soon it was finally time, Batista vs. Triple HHH for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 21 in Los Angelas. The two men battled it out. By the end of the match Triple HHH was bleeding and Batista had already taken care of numourous attempts of an interference by Ric Flair. With one powerbomb to Triple HHH, for the first time Batista got to strap the World title around his waste and have the weight of Raw on his shoulders.

But where the World title went, Triple HHH and Ric Flair were sure to follow as they made it clear that Triple HHH would be using his re-match clause stated in his contract and decided to make the match for Backlash. Now, Batista - Triple HHH II will take place at Backlash where once again all hell will be unleashed.
